Welcome to my website! I’m so glad you came by. I just want you to make sure you are in the right place. If you are looking for information on fundraising, governance and philanthropy and need a great keynote or breakout speaker or a board retreat facilitated, you just might have landed where you need to be. But just so you won’t waste your time, Here are a list of things you won’t find on this site:
If you are a risk taker and want to give a beginning keynote speaker a break, I’m not a good choice. If you want an experienced speaker with a CSP, I’m you’re gal. OK, I know what you’re thinking. What’s a CSP? Well, it’s the highest earned designation from the National Speaker’s Association. It means that I’ve done at least 250 speeches in a 5-year period for no less than 100 different clients for a minimum of a $1000 fee for a total of not less than $250,000 in 5 years. Trust me. It was more difficult to achieve than my two masters degrees!
If you already have a keynote speaker who will keep your audience awake, entertained and informed after feeding them 7000 calories on how to Raising Charitable Children, fundraising or a number of other topics pertaining to governance and fundraising volunteerism and philanthropy, then you don’t need me.
If you need body parts enlarged, a mortgage, pharmaceuticals, or girls named Bambi or Brandi, you are really in the wrong place.
If your board is clear on their roles and responsibilities and are functioning well and you have a solid succession plan, plenty of money for your mission and a healthy endowment, not only do you not need me, call me, we’ll co-author an article or book.
The good news: I don’t know any Nigerian princes who have lost their money and need your bank account number to help them find it. The bad news: when they are reunited with their inheritance, I can’t help you get a major donation from the Nigerian heir to the throne for your endowment campaign!
If you are wondering why I look so much better in the photo in the upper left than in the one with Fran Dresher, its because I’ve lost 30 lbs and a lot of spackling compound was used in preparation for the photo shoot.
If you are a faith-based organization and want one of your own to facilitate your board retreat (keynote speaker) or speak at your conference, I would not be a good choice. I love working with faith-based organized, perhaps because I am a religious mutt. I have a Jewish father and a German Lutheran mother who arrived in the States in 1947. I have successfully worked for many organizations including Jewish Family and Children Services, Lutheran Charities, St. Andrews Senior Services, El Salaam Day School, with the nuns at Nazareth Living etc. etc. I have a cousin who is a Rabbi and a cousin who is a priest. I have a cousin who is married to a Moslem and a sister-in-law who is Chinese. I have a place to go for Christmas and Hanukah and Ramadan. If you have a place at your table for Kwanzaa, I am available and will bring whatever you want and will help with the dishes.
If you believe that more can be learned in a classroom than in the field, then I’m probably not your best choice. I’ve served on 29 boards and been president of 7. I currently serve on the boards of the Asthma and Allergy Research Foundation and the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. Most of what I’ve learned has been through making mistakes. And some of them have been doozies. I also have a Masters degree in social work from Washington University in St. Louis, but that was in 1973 and I’ve learned a heck of a lot since then.
If you want someone who is a specialist in one area of nonprofit management, then I’m not for you. I work cross industry. You get someone with experience with associations and nonprofits as diverse as the American Association of Massage Therapists, the Epilepsy Foundation, The Australian Day Care Association and BoardSouce, The National Council For Voluntary Organizations, UK, The Build-A-Bear Foundation and The Gateway Men’s Choir. I also work with groups like the million-dollar roundtable of the United Way of America, which is a group of folks who have donated a million dollars or more and small urban grassroots organizations. And I enjoy them all.
If you want me to get on a plane in the next 15 minutes, I probably can’t do it. But you can e-mail or call me or if you need information, you can get it from one of my 8 books right away. You can pick up the phone and call me at
314-863-4422 or e-mail me at carol@carolweisman.com
